  • One thingbi don't get, in my twenties (35 years ago) I saw where a young doctoral engineer had taken one of those big electro magnets and instead of a flat bottom had changed it to cone shaped which increased the surface area by over 30% which permitted the magnet to move a third more material everytime. I have never seen this implemented in industry. It was a substantial increase in efficiency and productivity!

    • They didn't. There was a flaw in the stone there. You saw the 3 piles of dust and stones across the path of its fall? Those are to cushion it. If there is a slight vein or defect in the block they cut, it will break, so they work around it. Those blocks are maybe 20 tons, not easy to handle.
